Dallas Stars Announce Plans To Celebrate Hockey Is For Everyone Month
February is a time around the NHL to celebrate the Hockey is for Everyone movement, and the Dallas Stars have big things in store for the celebration. Here is a quick look at the team’s plans to celebrate in the month ahead.
Hockey is for Everyone is an NHL project that “uses the game of hockey – and the League’s global influence – to drive positive social change and foster more inclusive communities.”
It’s a movement designed to support everyone with a love for the game and provide an inclusive and safe environment for them, regardless of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender, or disability. In other words, they help reaffirm that hockey is for everyone.
This year, the Dallas Stars have extensive plans to celebrate Hockey is for Everyone throughout the month of February. In years past, they have hosted a You Can Play Night and auctioned off player sticks from warmups wrapped in Pride-themed tape while also hosting special guests to participate in the pre-game ceremonial puck drop.
While those events will still be included this year, the Stars have added more to the celebration.

On Feb. 19, the Dallas Stars will host their You Can Play Night against the Nashville Predators. Stars players will once again tape their sticks using Pride-themed tape during warmups, and a select few will be autographed and put up for auction following the game, with the proceeds being donated to the You Can Play project.
Two days later on Feb. 21, the Stars will help show the efforts made by Special Olympics Texas to grow the game of hockey across the state. Various representatives from the organization will take part in the pre-game ceremonial puck drop and will also be recognized throughout the game for their efforts in growing the game.
The Dallas Stars will also host Hockey Day in Texas during their game against the Carolina Hurricanes on Feb. 23. The celebration will recognize the growth and success of the game of hockey both in the state of Texas and in the DFW community since the Stars’ arrival in 1993. The team hosted its first Hockey Day in Texas back in June 2018 just before the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. The celebration included a morning and afternoon of various NHL players and prospects skating and playing with a handful of local young hockey athletes from the DFW area.
Shortly after the game, the Stars will also host the annual Boxx Modular Dallas Stars Alumni Game at the American Airlines Center. All tickets for the Stars-Hurricanes game will serve as admission for the Alumni Game.
In addition, the team will also host a volunteer event at the Community Resource Center at some point during the month of February.
John Klingberg will also serve as the Dallas Stars’ Hockey is for Everyone ambassador during the month. At the beginning of the 2018-19 season, Klingberg started up his own program called Klinger’s Kids. The program is designed to help children affected by life-threatening illnesses. Two times each month, Klingberg sits down with a committee and selects various recipients to attend certain games. The child and his or her family get a chance to attend morning skate, get a tour of the locker room from Klingberg himself, and also receive four tickets for that night’s game and a Tempur-Pedic mattress courtesy of Levitz Mattress. Klingberg has already hosted various children throughout the 2018-19 regular season.
Hockey is for Everyone is an exciting month for all 31 teams and their fans across the NHL. It’s a month built around inclusiveness and positivity, and the Dallas Stars are taking part in the celebration.
