Dallas Stars News: Radek Faksa, Czechs Shift To Bronze Medal Game
There’s only two games remaining in the 2019 IIHF World Championship, and one representative from the Dallas Stars still stands. But after dropping a loss to Canada on Saturday afternoon, Radek Faksa and the Czech Republic will now compete for the bronze medal.
Only one Dallas Stars player is still in action at the 2019 IIHF World Championship with just one day remaining. And while Radek Faksa and the Czech Republic may not have a shot at landing a gold medal anymore, there is still a medal in play.
After defeating Germany in the quarterfinals on a dominant 5-1 note, the Czechs fell behind early in the semifinals and couldn’t rally against Canada. They ended up falling 5-1 as Mark Stone, Darnell Nurse, Pierre Luc-Dubois, Kyle Turris, and Thomas Chabot all tallied goals for the Canadians to build a 5-0 lead before Tomas Zohorna scored the lone goal for the Czechs.
Meanwhile, Faksa posted no points and finished with a -2 rating on the day.

It’s an unfortunate end to the Czechs’ pursuit of a gold medal. They coasted through preliminary play, posting a record of 6-1-0 with the lone loss coming against Russia. The Czechs finished second in the Group B standings and cruised to a berth in the quarterfinals. There, they handled Germany and punched their ticket to the final four.
On the other hand, fellow Dallas Stars teammate John Klingberg and his home country of Sweden were knocked out of the quarterfinals by Finland.
Faksa has played in six total tournament games, scoring one goal (being a game-winner) and tallying four total points in the contests. In addition, he has posted two penalty minutes.
On the other side of the bracket, Finland defeated Russia 1-0 to work their way into the gold medal game. They will square off with Canada in hopes of securing the gold.
Just before the gold medal game, Faksa and the Czechs will duke it out with Russia in a battle for the bronze medal. If the Czechs can win, it will be their first time medaling in the IIHF World Championship since 2012, when they also finished in third.
The puck will drop between the Czech Republic and Russia at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday morning, with the gold medal game starting shortly after at 1:15 p.m.
Will Faksa be able to bring home some hardware? Check in tomorrow morning and find out.
