After bouncing around for the past few years and exploring both Cedar Park and Idaho, the Dallas Stars are returning to North Texas for their 2019 training camp session.
Training camp is an important time of the year for the Dallas Stars.
It’s the team’s first chance to get on the ice together before a given regular season begins and get a firsthand glimpse at all of the changes that the previous offseason brought. Whether it’s new players that were signed or traded for during the summer or prospects that have earned a look for the NHL roster, it’s a time for trial and error and a chance to see the organization’s best talent on the ice together.
But in years past, the location has been a bit scattered and unexpected. Back in 2014, the Dallas Stars took their training camp just west of Dallas to the Fort Worth Convention Center. It offered fans the chance to go and take in the camp sessions during the weekend leading up to preseason action. The Stars had just broken their five-year playoff drought one season before and had a bright future to build on. As a result, the camp turnout was solid.

In 2015, 2016, and 2017, though, they took the event south to the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, Texas. The Stars spent three consecutive training camps at the home of the Texas Stars, their AHL affiliate, and gave Stars fans in the Austin area a chance to see the Dallas Stars “in their backyard.” In addition, it gave the fans in North Texas an opportunity to plan a weekend vacation down south to check out another side of the Stars’ organization.
And in 2018, they took training camp to a new level (and state, for that matter) when they headed for Boise, Idaho to the home of the Idaho Steelheads, their ECHL affiliate. It was a chance to bring NHL hockey to Boise and give ECHL fans a chance to watch a big league training camp session.
But on Thursday afternoon, the Stars announced that they will return to North Texas for their 2019 training camp session.
Dallas will hold its 2019 Training Camp at the Comerica Center in Frisco, which also happens to be the organization’s executive offices. It will begin on Friday, September 13, with the rest of the schedule being announced at a later date.
In addition, the Dallas Stars will also host their annual Development Camp (a four-day camp for Stars’ prospects) at the Comerica Center immediately after the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. The camp will run from June 25-28 and will feature some of the best young Stars in the system.
It’s a great opportunity for the hometown fans to get out and see the Stars in training camp action in the North Texas area.
With that being said, let the countdown to September 13 begin.
