In addition to releasing their 2019-20 preseason schedule, the Dallas Stars also released a copy of the roster and schedule for their 2019 Development Camp session. The camp will start after the conclusion of the NHL Entry Draft and will provide the Stars with an up-close look at the best prospects in their system.

Only eight days separate the Dallas Stars from making the 18th selection of the first round and getting their 2019 NHL Entry Draft journey underway. And when you consider that the Stanley Cup Final ended around 24 hours ago, it’s obvious that there’s not a lot of turnover time involved.

But that’s what the offseason is all about. It’s a handful of weeks filled with non-stop action for all 31 NHL teams, spanning from the middle of June to the tail end of July. From the NHL Entry Draft, to buyouts, to trade rumors and deals, to contract extensions, and wrapping it all together with the opening of Free Agency, it’s a lively and fast-paced time of the year for teams, players, and fans.

But buried within all of the “highlights” are some other notable happenings and events to further engage fans. Those events include the release of the preseason and regular season schedules for the year ahead, the NHL Awards show in Las Vegas, and a Development Camp session for each club.

And on Thursday morning, just a few minutes after releasing their 2019-20 preseason schedule, the Dallas Stars announced the information for their 2019 Development Camp.

Development camp is an annual summer event usually hosted by each of the 31 teams during the offseason. The camp takes place shortly after the draft and is a chance for each organization (as well as their fans, on most on occasions) to get an up-close and personal look at the prospect pool.

It’s a chance for 35-40 members of the team’s farm system to work out with coaches, show off their talents, and prove how far they have come since the previous development camp. It’s a great step for prospects trying to take the next step in their career and move up the league ladder.

The Stars’ 2019 Development Camp session is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 24 at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas and will be free and open to the public. The team released the schedule and the initial roster of invited players on Thursday.

In addition, the Stars included 33 prospects (21 forwards, 9 defensemen, 3 goaltenders) on their initial roster. The roster includes a mixture of drafted players, recent free agent signings, as well as a few free agent invites. This isn’t the final roster, though, considering the team’s picks from the 2019 NHL Entry Draft should be in attendance as well.

When you scan the roster, there’s a handful of intriguing names that stand out. Former first-round picks Riley Tufte (2016), Jake Oettinger (2017, and Ty Dellandrea (2018) were signed to entry-level contracts this past season and are all working their way up the prospect ladder at the moment. All three have the potential to be NHL options in the near future, so their performance at camp will be something to take note of.

In addition, players like Jason Robertson, Nick Caamano, Joseph Cecconi, and Colton Point took impressive steps forward this past season and should be looking to take another one at development camp.

It’s also a chance for new free agent signings like Emil Djuse (Sweden) and Joel Kiviranta (Finland) to skate in a Dallas jersey for the first time since being signed by the organization in the previous weeks.
