The Dallas Stars beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 on Friday night at the American Airlines Center. This is the third straight win for the Dallas Stars with Jake Oettinger in the net. Here is what went down in Dallas that caused the impending avalanche to be melted.

Dallas Stars vs Colorado Avalanche: 1st period

I said in my pre game article for this game that the Stars had to get out to a fast start against the Avalanche. I guess Joe Pavelski read my article caused he scored two quick goals 19 seconds apart to make it 2-0 Dallas early on. Joe Pavelski became the 10th member of 400 career goals club with those two goals. Stars would not allow the Avalanche to score for the remainder of the period.

Dallas Stars vs Colorado Avalanche: 2nd period

The Stars would continue that strong defense to start off the second period. However, Stars fans had a heart attack in the second period when Jake Oettinger would leave the ice due to an injury. Braden Holtby would take over between the pipes for Oettinger. Dennis Gurianov would get revenge against the Av’s by scoring a quick goal to make it 3-0 going into the second intermission.

Dallas Stars vs Colorado Avalanche: 3rd period

Stars fans were so relieved when they saw Oettinger lead the team out to start the third period. I think thats what propelled the Stars to only allow one goal in the third period. The Stars would go on to win the game 3-1.

Afterthoughts of tonight’s game

The Stars are playing another game tomorrow night at the AAC as they are taking on the Arizona Coyotes. I expect to see Braden Holtby to start tomorrow night since its a quick turnaround and Oettinger needs a day to heal up. This would be Holtby’s first start since getting injured.

Once again, it proves coming out of the gate strong in the first period does set the pace and shows which team will win the game. Stars need to keep doing this against divisional opponents in order to climb in the Central Division.
