The Dallas Stars have probably one of the most important games this season this afternoon. If the Stars are able to beat the Minnesota Wild, they would tie them for third place in the Central Division. This would probably be the last time they would have a shot at making it into the top 3 in the conference. Here are the keys to the game if the Stars want to tie the Wild in the standings.
Dallas Stars vs Minnesota Wild: 3. No extra man chances for Wild
I know the last game vs the Jets they had so many power plays against the Stars and that was due to the refs. With all the good players that the Wild have on their power play, I know they will not miss the net like the Jets did. The Stars can’t commit stupid penalties against the Wild, it’s that simple.
Dallas Stars vs Minnesota Wild: 2. Can’t wait until the third period to score
The Stars need to come out of the gate in the first period and put pucks past whoever is starting for the Wild between the pipes. The Stars can’t afford to get behind early against the Wild since they are playing in Minnesota. They need to take the rowdy Wild crowd out of the game early. Luckily, the Stars are getting Tyler Seguin back for this afternoon’s game so hopefully, he can help them out with scoring tomorrow.
Dallas Stars vs Minnesota Wild: 1. Play defense and help out whichever Stars goaltender is in net
The Stars need to play defense and help out whatever goaltender starts for Dallas tomorrow. Braden Holtby looked like he wanted to “murder” some of his teammates for the number of saves he had to make against the Jets. The Stars can’t allow the Wild to set up camp for a majority of the period in the Stars offensive zone.
