Like I said in the pregame article yesterday, you cant take the day off against the Leafs even when their top player Auston Matthews is suspended. The Maple Leafs overpower the Dallas Stars 4-0 in the first meeting this season. Based on what I saw during the game, everybody but Marian Studenic and Jake Oettinger are “back in Texas”. There are Stars games every season that are just hard to watch for fans and tonight was one of those games. Here is what happened between the Leafs and the Stars Tuesday night.

Dallas Stars vs Toronto Maple Leafs: 1st period recap

The Stars and the Maple Leafs spent much of the 1st period in the Star’s zone. Ramses Sandin scored first seven minutes into the period to make it 1-0 Leafs. Four minutes later, the Stars continued to try get the puck out of their zone and John Tavares would make it 2-0.

The Stars would trail the Maple Leafs 2-0 after the 1st period. They would also trail the Leafs in shots on goal 13-10. The Stars need to get things turned around in the 2nd period with they want to get back into the playoffs.

Dallas Stars vs Toronto Maple Leafs: 2nd period recap

No one scored in the 2nd period and the score would remain the same going into the 2nd intermission. The good news is the Stars did double their shots on goal to 26 which they needed to do however, none of those shots went into Toronto’s net. The Stars will need some of their shots to go in the net in the 3rd to win this game.

Dallas Stars vs Toronto Maple Leafs: 3rd period recap

It doesn’t help your cause when you allow a power play goal to start the 3rd period. Ondrej Kase would score to start the 3rd period to make it 3-0 Leafs. The only highlight of the game comes from Jake Oettinger on Nylander on this amazing save to keep it from being 4-0 Leafs. As Razor said in the highlight video below, its “larceny in the first degree”.

That would be it from the Stars tonight as the Maple Leafs would score a empty net goal at the end of the game to make the final score 4-0 Leafs. The Stars need to turn it around on Thursday as they travel to Montreal to take on the Canadians.
