John Klingberg came to save the Dallas Stars in Montreal as the Stars beat the Canadiens 4-3 in OT. With the OT victory in Montreal, the Stars have jumped back into the second wildcard spot in the Western Conference. With the win, Jake Oettinger would reach 20 wins as a Dallas Stars goaltender.

Dallas Stars vs Montreal Canadiens 1st period recap

John Klingberg would help the Stars get off to a “great start” by going to the penalty box less than a minute into the game. The Star’s top line would get some good attempts on Josh Allen but he would rob the Stars on a majority of those attempts.

Jake Oettinger would rob the Canadiens of a goal in the later part of the 1st period with a pad save to keep it scoreless. Jake Allen would then make one of his own against Seguin in front of him. If you are a fan of games where it comes down to goaltending, this game is for you.

Denis Gurianov would have a chance late in the 1st period but lost control of the puck in front of Allen. Radek Faksa would finally get one past Allen to make it 1-0 Stars. The Stars would go into the first intermission up 1-0 and lead in shots on goal 12-9.

Very good energy from the Stars against the Canadiens in the 1st period. Hopefully, they can keep that up in the 2nd period and keep scoring to get those two critical points.

Dallas Stars vs Montreal Canadiens 2nd period recap

The Minutemen line would get some good shots on goal to start off the 2nd period. Both teams are having issues setting up their offense in the opening minutes of this period. Cole Caufield would tie the game on the power play midway through the period.

The aggressiveness by the Stars to get the puck out of their zone has been pretty good in the 2nd. The Stars would go on the power play after Radulov was tripped going after the puck. Jamie Benn would score after time expired on the power play to make it 2-1.

Stars will be on the penalty kill to start the 3rd as the Stars lead the Canadiens 2-1 after the 2nd period. The Stars would still lead with shots on goal 22-19 after 2. If the Stars keep up the defense and keep scoring goals, they can get two points in Montreal.

Dallas Stars vs Montreal Canadiens 3rd period recap

Stars were able to kill off the rest of that penalty to start the 3rd. Stars got really aggressive in Montreal’s side of the ice and almost knocked in a couple of goals. The Stars would go back on the penalty kill after Faksa interfered with Jake Allen.

Nick Suzuki would score eight seconds into their next power play to tie the game back up at 2. Four minutes later, the Canadiens would take the lead on a Corey Schueneman goal to make it 3-2.

John Klingberg would tie things up late in the 3rd period and we would go to another OT. This is where Stars fans start to have heart issues due to the Star’s up and down Overtime record this season.

Klingberg would score late in OT to give the Stars the two points they deserve for the win. Next up for the Stars is an early Saturday afternoon matchup vs the New York Islanders.
