Jamie Benn and the Dallas Stars would have another successful duck hunt as the Stars get the mini sweep over the Anaheim Ducks 2-1 in OT tonight. This was the Stars sixth win in eight games. With the two points earned here tonight, the Stars keep pace for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Here’s what went down at the Honda Center last night.

Dallas Stars vs Anaheim Ducks: 1st period recap

This period was dominated by the Dallas Stars as Ryan Suter was the only player who would score this period for either team. At the end of the 1st period, the Stars would dominate the Ducks on Shots on goal 14-2 and would also lead in faceoffs won 10-7. This was a perfect period for the Dallas Stars as I have nothing negative or anything to complain about.

Dallas Stars vs Anaheim Ducks: 2nd period recap

Jake Oettinger’s play from the 1st period would transfer over to the beginning of the 2nd as he would keep it a 1-0 lead early on in the period. Both teams aren’t allowing each other to get set up in their offensive zone in this period. Ducks really don’t want to have an 11 game losing streak on their hands. Alexander Radulov would go to the penalty box for misconduct midway through the period.

Radulov would have a very good shot at making the lead 2-0 but accidentally swatted the puck away from the front of the net. The Ducks would turn up the pressure late in the period as they look to get their foot in the game and create some momentum going into the 3rd period.

Jamie Drysdale would get the Ducks on the board in the final minute of the 2nd period to tie the game at 1. The Stars and the Ducks would go into the final intermission tied at 1. The Stars still lead the Ducks in the shots on goal category 23-10. Dallas has to kick it into high gear in the 3rd period if they want to win and keep up with the playoff race in the Western Conference.

Dallas Stars vs Anaheim Ducks: 3rd period and OT recap

Michael Raffl and Luke Glendening would kick off the 3rd period by getting a couple of shots on John Gibson. The Ducks would come alive on the offensive end of things 5 minutes later as Trevor Zegras and Kevin Shattenkirk would test Oettinger.

Radulov would go back to the penalty box for tripping Simon Benoit. This would be the 3rd penalty on the Stars tonight. The Stars would kill off Radulov’s 2nd penalty of the night but the Ducks would continue to attack Oettinger in the Star’s zone.

Andrej Sekera would save the day for the Dallas Stars as he would score the go-ahead goal late in the period to give the Stars a 2-1 lead over the Ducks. Kevin Shattenkirk would tie things up at 2 shortly after the Sekera goal.

Jamie Benn was not going to leave Anaheim without the sweep and the two points. He would score in OT as the Stars go on to win 2-1. Next up is a trip to the Shark Tank in San Jose as it’s another late game for the Stars Saturday night.
