It was just one of those nights where the opposing goaltender played better. The Dallas Stars were unable to get anything past Chris Driedger as they would lose 4-1 to the Seattle Kraken. Stars were gassed from opening puck drop and just didn’t have any energy out there on the ice tonight. Here is what happened during the Star’s first visit to Climate Pledge Arena.

Dallas Stars vs Seattle Kraken: 1st period recap

Ryan Suter would register the first shot of the game on Chris Driedger within the first minute of the period. Kole Lind would commit the first penalty of the game and the Stars would go on the power play. Jared McCann would score on the Stars power play to get the Kraken a 1-0 lead.

Stars would keep attacking Driedger after Seattle scored the first goal of the game. Seattle’s defense limited the Stars to one shot before clearing the puck out of the zone. Stars need to get second chance shots on him if they want to have a chance to win in Seattle.

Roope Hintz would have one of the best chances to rip one past Driedger late in the 1st period and       He couldn’t believe he missed the net. The Stars would trail the Kraken 1-0 after the 1st period. The Stars would also trail the Kraken in shots on net 8-6.

The Stars did play last night in San Jose and might have needed the period to wake up and get things going in the 1st period. Stars need more energy on offense and defense in the 2nd period.

Dallas Stars vs Seattle Kraken: 2nd period recap

Seattle started the 2nd period like they ended the 1st period, being aggressive against Jake Oettinger. Jamie Benn would get a shot attempt against Driedger, but he would save it with his glove. Seattle is just not allowing the Stars to get set up in their zone.

Roope Hintz would be a second late on a weird bounce off the wall behind Driedger that would land right in front of him. Oettinger would make the save of the game after Sekera almost scored for the Kraken by knocking it towards him. He would make another glove save on a wrister a couple of minutes later. Then he would rob Yanni Gourde of what would have been a goal.

Dallas will go on the power play after Adam Larsson interfered with Joe Pavelski. The Stars almost gave up two shorties to Seattle on our own power play. Oettinger is the only reason we are still only down by a goal after that mess.

Joel Kiviranta tried to jam one past the Kraken’s goaltender but he would stand firm and not allow the puck in the net. Oettinger would turn away another short-handed attempt as the Kraken have completely dominated the 2nd period. Stars will still trail the Kraken by one at the 2nd intermission. Oettinger is the only reason why the Stars are still in this game simple as that.

Dallas Stars vs Seattle Kraken: 3rd period recap

Driedger and Oettinger are having a goaltending clinic tonight. Both goalies would have a highlight reel save to start off the third period. Ryan Donato would juke out Oettinger to get the second goal of the game for the Kraken tonight. Stars are now starting to get some footing in Seattle’s zone to set up their offense.

It’s just one of those nights where the opposing goaltender is a brick wall and nothing is getting past him. Oettinger would have some help stopping the Kraken from making it 3-0 as some players form a wall next to Oettinger.

Stars would get a power play and ten seconds later, the Stars would cancel out the power play with a penalty of their own. Joel Hanley would finally cut the Seattle lead to one by redirecting one past Driedger.

Gourde would get a breakaway opportunity and would get one past Oettinger to make it 3-1 Seattle. Karson Khulman would score the empty netter for the final score of 4-1 Kraken. Stars will be back at it on Tuesday against the New York Islanders at the American Airlines Center.
