The Dallas Stars push their playoff “magic number” to 1
The atmosphere in the American Airlines Center on Tuesday night was electric. Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen fed off of that energy and propelled the Dallas Stars to a victory over the Las Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 in a shootout. With the win, the Stars just need 1 point to make the playoffs, all they have to do is win or force OT in one of their final games of the season. Here is the game recap of what happened at the AAC on Tuesday night.
Dallas Stars vs Las Vegas Golden Knights: 1st period recap
The Stars really started the game off sloppy from the opening faceoff. They were trying to be too fancy with the puck passing and setting up teammates. They also had a lot of second-chance rebounds with the puck in front of Logan Thompson. William Carrier would score his ninth goal of the season in the final minute of the period to make it 1-0 Knights.
The Golden Knights would take the lead into the first intermission. After the 1st period, the Stars and the Sharks would be tied in shots on goal at eight shots each. Stars however would lead in hits 17-7 and in faceoffs won 8-5.
Dallas Stars vs Las Vegas Golden Knights: 2nd period recap
In the 2nd period, the Stars got things going on the offensive side of the puck. Jason Robertson would score his 39th goal of the season to make it 1-1. After he scored, the AAC went bonkers and tried to rally the Stars to score again.
However, at the end of the period, Chandler Stephenson would score on the power play to give the Golden Knights a 2-1 lead going into the 2nd intermission of the game. The Golden Knights would lead in shots on goal 19-18. Stars would lead in faceoffs won 18-13 and in the hits category 21-18.
Dallas Stars vs Las Vegas Golden Knights: 3rd period and OT recap
Jason Robertson wasted no time in the 3rd period to get his 40th goal of the season. 4 minutes into the period, he would show what a textbook redirect is to tie the game at 2. The AAC gave him an ovation for scoring his 40th goal of the season shortly after.
After that goal, the Stars and the Golden Knights would put on a goaltending clinic to send the game to OT. With the game going to OT, the Stars were not able to clinch their playoff spot tonight. They would have a chance though to make the magic number to make the playoffs down to 1.
After a short overtime period, we would go to the shootout where games that decide who goes to the playoffs shouldn’t go. Miro Heiskanen would score the game-winning goal in the 7th round of the shootout to give the Stars a 3-2 win over the Golden Knights. The Stars are back at it tomorrow as they take on the Arizona Coyotes one more time this season.
