It’s been two weeks since Peter DeBoer was named the next Dallas Stars head coach. Now that is out of the way, the next thing coaches usually do is put together their assistant coaches. It was announced this past week that DeBoer appointed Alain Nasreddine and Steve Spott to join his coaching staff. Let’s dive into each new assistant coach so you know what to expect this season from them.

(Info on the coaches is from the Dallas Stars press release on both the hirings)

Dallas Stars Assistant Coach Steve Spott

Steve Spott was the latest coach that was named to join the Stars’ coaching staff. He is no stranger to DeBoer, He spent the last three seasons in Vegas as an Assistant Coach for the Golden Knights. He also served alongside him from 2015-2019 in San Jose.

Spott coached the Kitchener Rangers in the Ontario Hockey League and finished with a 187-121-32 record. He also qualified for the postseason four out of the five years he coached there.

Stars fans are concerned that he might coach the power play here in Dallas. Unfortunately, he probably will be coaching the Power Play here in Dallas. This is a really qualified Assistant Coach and you should give him a chance

Dallas Stars Assistant Coach Alain Nasreddine

Alain Nasreddine is the next coach to join the Stars’ coaching staff. He will focus on the penalty kill and defensive side of the game. He joins the coaching staff after being an Assistant Coach for seven seasons in New Jersey.  He was an Assistant Coach under DeBoer in San Jose as well.

He started out his coaching career in the AHL in 2010-11 with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton where he helped the Penguins win their first McGregor Kilpatrick Trophy with a 58-21-0-1 record. He continued coaching the defense for the Penguins making them the top defense in the AHL three out of the next 4 seasons.

I know some of you wanted Marc Savard to be an assistant coach here, personally, I think DeBoer and Nill picked two of the best Assistant Coaches you can find out there right now. I think fans should give these two coaches a chance in Dallas before you want them fired.
