All I can say is I was not expecting the start we were going to have to start the season. The Finnish Mafia took control of the game tonight and led the Stars to a 4-1 win over the Jets. Pete DeBoer also made some history tonight becoming the first Dallas Stars coach to start his tenure 3-0. Jake Oettinger is playing some of his best hockey already only allowing three goals so far this season.
There were a lot of good things that the Stars did tonight against the Winnipeg Jets. Here are 3 things that you need to take away from tonight’s win. But first, here is Oettinger showing how grossly underpaid he is with this save.
Dallas Stars vs Winnipeg Jets Recap: 3. The Finnish Mafia Is Back
Tonight’s storyline was how well the Finnish Mafia played tonight. For those who are new to being Dallas Stars fans, the Finnish Mafia are the Stars players that are from Finland. The Finnish Mafia finished with a combined 5 points tonight against the Jets. If we can get them and Pavelski and Sons playing well together in games, teams will have a hard time playing against us.
Dallas Stars vs Winnipeg Jets Recap: 2. Defenseman Getting In On The Action
This is something that has been very rare recently from the Stars. For the last couple of seasons, Defenseman getting into the scoring action has been very limited. Well tonight, a couple of our defensemen got goals tonight. Miro Heiskanen and Jani Hawkanpaa each got a goal tonight. If the Stars’ defensemen get in on the scoring action throughout the season, this team could be deadly this season.
Dallas Stars vs Winnipeg Jets Recap: 1. Multiple Awards Coming?
The Dallas Stars could be in multiple awards races this season. New Dallas Stars Head Coach Pete DeBoer could be in the running for the Jack Adams Trophy. Already through three games this season, Jake Oettinger has a solid Vezina Trophy campaign going. Miro Heiskanen could even wind up getting into the Norris Trophy race for best defenseman.
We will see if the Stars can continue their current winning streak to start the season as they travel to Canada. The first stop on their early Canadian road tour is the city of Toronto. They will take on Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs Thursday night.
