When you play two straight periods on your heels, bad things are about to happen. The Ottawa Senators struck oil in the third period in order to beat the Dallas Stars 4-2 Monday night. Scott Wedgewood is exempt from being blamed for the loss from Stars fans. If you want to blame someone for the loss, look at Ryan Suter. The Stars have to shake it off as they have the Boston Bruins tomorrow night at TD Garden. Here are the three takeaways from the Senators game.
Dallas Stars vs Boston Bruins Recap: 3. Wyatt Johnston is building his case to stay
Dallas Stars rookie Wyatt Johnston is currently building a case to stay in Dallas past his nine games tryout. He added a goal against the Senators to bring his career goal total to two. He needs to continue to show that he belongs by getting good shots on net and show how good his overall game is. If he finishes the nine games with two goals and an assist, I don’t know if that will be enough to stay in Dallas. Hopefully he can continue to show that he belongs on this team against Boston tonight.
Dallas Stars vs Boston Bruins Recap: 2. Wedgewood showed he’s a good goalie
Scott Wedgewood deserves some of his teammates paychecks (Suters) tonight from the way he played tonight. Wedgewood made a bunch of highlight reel saves especially the two on one breakaway that he stuffed. It’s just unfortunate some of his teammates decided to shut down in the third period and left him having to play defense by himself. If you look past the goals allowed in the third, Otter and him are probably one of the top goaltending duos in the league right now.
Dallas Stars vs Boston Bruins Recap: 1. Ryan Suter is back to normal
Ryan Suter was the primary reason Pinto got a goal tonight to continue his goal streak. The Stars might have had a chance to get back in this game if Suter was able to handle the puck correctly. Instead of doing that, Wedgewood was left to defend for himself. Suter needs to get his head straight as they will need him against the 1st place Boston Bruins tonight.
