The Dallas Stars remain perfect at home this season with a 2-0 win over the Washington Capitals. Jake Oettinger deserved his paycheck tonight as he shut down a high-octane offense that had multiple chances to score. Joel Kiviranta had the goal of the night that you will see down below. Dallas Stars Head Coach Pete DeBoer couldn’t ask for a better outing from his squad tonight. Here are three takeaways from the game against the Capitals that you should know about.

Dallas Stars vs Washington Capitals Recap: 3. Nils Lundkvist Calder running?

Nils Lundkvist could make things interesting with Wyatt Johnston. I’m not talking about sending Johnston back to the OHL, he’s earned his spot on the roster. I’m talking about the race for the Calder Memorial Trophy. So far this very young season, Lundkvist has four assists. Depending on how the other rookies across the league play this season, Johnston and Lundkvist could be finalists for the award.

Dallas Stars vs Washington Capitals Recap: 2. SportsCenter Top 10 worthy goal

Joel Kiviranta probably had the best goal of the night across the entire league. The funny thing about the goal was it happened on the Capital’s power play. John Carlson was slow to move the puck up ice and Joel Kiviranta snuck up on him, stole the puck, and put one past Darcy Kuemper. You’ll probably see it again over social media and possibly the NHL Network. Here is Joel Kiviranta’s goal from last night.

Dallas Stars vs Washington Capitals Recap: 1. Everyone contributed tonight

It was a well-rounded team effort from everyone tonight against the Capitals. The penalty kill squad did its job when they had to kill a penalty. All four lines were trying to score goals which is completely the opposite of last year’s squad which would wait on Pavelski and Sons to provide the offense. The defense kept Alex Ovechkin out of his favorite place to score goals from for most of the game. Let’s hope that the Stars can continue their success against the New York Rangers Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM.
