The Dallas Stars offense came alive in the third period against the Minnesota Wild. Goals from Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin and Wyatt Johnston helped tame the Minnesota Wild 4-1. This was a great win on the road against a divisional opponent. The Dallas Stars might have a Calder Trophy finalist on their hands as Wyatt Johnston is tied for first for most goals by a rookie. Lets take a look at that and a lot more in the three takeaways from tonights game against the Wild.
Dallas Stars vs Minnesota Wild Recap: 3. Great start to the game tonight
The Dallas Stars had a really energetic first period against the Wild tonight. The Stars defense held the Wild’s offense at bay until the end of the first period when Kaprizov scored. I mean if you looked at how the Stars came out of the gate against Nashville and last nights game, I’d say they were pretty identical starts. Let’s hope the Stars can string another great first period against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night.
Dallas Stars vs Minnesota Wild Recap: 2. Jake Oettinger shined against his idol
Oettinger shined in front of his friends and family who were in attendance tonight. He also shined against his idol at the other end of the rink. When growing up, Otter was a huge fan of Marc-Andre Fleury. Getting the win against your Idol must feel good for Oettinger. We are probably due for a Scott Wedgewood game in the near future. Hopefully, Oettinger gets the night off on New Years Eve and can start the new year with a win.
Dallas Stars vs Minnesota Wild Recap: 1. Wyatt Johnston playing like a Calder Finalist
I don’t think many reporters had Wyatt Johnston on their short lists for the Calder Trophy in October. Wyatt Johnston has exceeded expectations so far this year and he deserves to be in the running for the Calder Trophy. With the goal he had tonight against the Wild, he’s now tied for first in goals among rookies this season. Whatever happens for the remainder of the season, the Stars are happy to have Wyatt Johnston in their lineup.
