The Dallas Stars looked like they had complete control of this game in the second period after going up 3-0 on the San Jose Sharks. However, that was dead wrong as the Stars hit a brick wall after giving up five unanswered goals as the Sharks would win the game 5-3. This was just a god awful game from everyone except Oettinger who was left out to dry. Let’s take a look at the three takeaways from the game and what the Stars need to change.

Dallas Stars vs San Jose Sharks Recap: 3. Team flat out quit

Really not much to say about the Stars tonight other than they quit on Oettinger. When you go up 3-0 early in the game, you can’t quit on your goaltender like that. The Sharks were able to get back into the game with two quick goals in the second period and tied it on the power play later on. If you want to be a dominating threat in the league, you have to play defense. The Stars didn’t do that tonight and it costed them a couple of points to build that lead against Winnipeg in the division.

Dallas Stars vs San Jose Sharks Recap: 2. The Stars did have depth scoring tonight

The Stars did have some good things happen to them tonight. One of those things that went right for the Stars was they had some depth scoring tonight. They had goals from Ty Dellandrea and Radek Faksa. Dellandrea has created some shots for himself these last couple of games and he finally got one to go in tonight. I didn’t see the fourth line getting in on the action as Radek Faksa had his shot go off the skate of a Sharks defender in front of the net. It’s good to see this from the Stars.

Dallas Stars vs San Jose Sharks Recap: 1. “Thanos” made Dallas Stars history tonight

Like Stars fans have been saying this season, Jason Robertson is inevitable. Robertson scored his 30th goal of the season tonight early on in the second period. With that goal he becomes the fastest Dallas Star to score 30 goals in a season. He beat Mike Modano’s record of 48 games in the 1993-94 season. While the game was a complete disaster last night, at least there were some positives that came away from it. The Stars are back at it tonight as they take on the Los Angeles Kings.
