Game Over: Dallas Stars season ends with a 6-0 blowout loss to Knights
The Dallas Stars have had a magical playoff run but sometimes the gas runs out. That was the case tonight as the Stars came out flat and the Golden Knights took care of business. The Stars end up losing Game 6 by a final score of 6-0 and won’t force a Game 7 on Wednesday night.
One of my favorite quotes from Dr. Seuss comes to the forefront with the loss tonight. “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” The Stars had a good run throughout the playoffs and just ran into an experienced squad that didn’t panic when the Stars started their comeback in Game 4.
Stars fans should be happy that the team is on the right path moving forward. We just need to make some adjustments to the roster and run it back next season. With that being said, let’s take a look at the three takeaways from tonight’s season-ending loss to the Golden Knights.
Dallas Stars vs Golden Knights Recap: 3. DeBoer made the wrong roster move
Pete DeBoer probably made the wrong choice by changing Fredrik Olofsson for Jamie Benn tonight. Olofsson was playing outstanding hockey the last two games defensively and the Golden Knights took advantage of him out of the lineup. I think the Stars could have had a shot in this game if Marchment was taken out of the lineup, but I’m just a reporter.
Dallas Stars vs Golden Knights Recap: 2. Too many odd-man rushes
The Stars were sloppy with the puck handling tonight and it also ended up costing them the game. They turned the puck over into too many 2-on-1 rushes and the Golden Knights capitalized on them. Jake Oettinger was left out to dry on a majority of them and it’s another reason why we lost the game.
Dallas Stars vs Golden Knights Recap: 1. No passion
The Stars just came out flat tonight with no passion to extend the season. When your back is against the wall, you got to fight for your life. Unfortunately, the Stars didn’t fight and it cost them going to the Stanley Cup Finals this season.
I know it stinks to see this happen to them after all the hard work they put in this season. Sometimes a lesson can be the best thing for a young team. I have no doubt the Stars will be back in the hunt for the Cup next season. This team has such a bright future ahead of them with Pete DeBoer at the helm of this team. Now we cheer on the ECHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars, the Idaho Steelheads, as they fight for the Kelly Cup.
