Let’s take a look at another NHL Draft Prospect that could be on the Stars’ radar. Our very own Blackout Dallas Contributor Giovanna Mengarelli found this prospect for her recent article and he has an interesting backstory. A couple of years ago he was fighting for his life in the ER after jumping from a roof. Thankfully, he made a full recovery and returned to playing hockey. Let’s take a look at how Center Hudson Malinoski could fit on this Dallas Stars roster down the road.
2023 Dallas Stars NHL Draft Profile Hudson Malinoski: Junior Hockey
Malinoski had a remarkable season in the SMAAAHL in 2021-22 with the Saskatoon Blazers where he tallied 31 goals and 29 assists. He also played with the Brooks Bandits during the 2022-23 season. He finished the season with 16 goals and 53 assists. He helped the Bandits this season win back-to-back Centennial Cups. I know he didn’t play in the big junior leagues like the WHL but he did demonstrate that he could possibly play in the NHL.
2023 Dallas Stars NHL Draft Profile Hudson Malinoski: Where would he fit with the Stars?
It’s hard to see where he would fit on the Stars considering by the time that he is ready we would probably be stacked up and down the roster. I could see him centering either the second or third line. I don’t think he would end up on the first line since Logan Stankoven or Wyatt Johnston could be on that at the time. The way he can set up his teammates could help players on the lower line find the stat sheet.
2023 Dallas Stars NHL Draft Profile Hudson Malinoski: Conclusion
The Stars would be swinging for the fences with the 61st pick drafting him. He still has a lot of development ahead of him. He is attending Providence College next season so he would probably end up being stashed there for a bit. I could see however the Stars trading into the draft in the 3rd round to select him if they wanted him. In my personal opinion, I see the Stars focusing their attention on a more seasoned prospect that could contribute with the 61st pick.
