There is no better way to open up the Prospect Series than by talking about this top prospect that the Stars have. For those who missed yesterday’s article, we will be talking about some of the top Dallas Stars prospects coming to training camp this September. We will be going through who has the best shot to make the Stars’ roster and where they will end up next season in the Stars’ pipeline. I figured we would begin with the one and only Logan Stankoven.

Dallas Stars Prospect Series: Logan Stankoven’s background

Logan Stankoven has been playing with the Kamloops Blazers for the past two seasons up in the WHL. He has won numerous awards during his career there such as Player of the Year. His fourth year with the Blazers is when he really started to shine on the ice offensively. He put up 45 goals and 59 assists for a total of 104 points during the 2021-22 season. He backed it up this past season even after being gone a quarter of it due to Stars training camp with 34 goals and 63 assists.

Dallas Stars Prospect Series: Likeliness that he makes the Stars’ roster this season

Right now it looks like he will be starting off with the Texas Stars next season. With all the Stars’ signings this offseason, the roster is basically full right now. I doubt Dallas Stars Jim Nill is going to throw him on the roster unless he is on one of the top two lines. Stankoven still has a shot to make the roster. He has got to go out there on the ice this preseason and rack up the goals. That’s probably the only way he gets Nill’s attention to make the Stars’ opening night roster.

Dallas Stars Prospect Series: What he needs to work on

Really there’s not much offensively that Stankoven needs to work on. We know he can pour on the goals with a flip of a switch. The one thing he should work on in Cedar Park this year is his defensive game. At 5’8 he is small compared to the average NHL player.

He can get shoved around easily out there on the ice. I hope that he continues to build some muscle through weightlifting because he needs to get stronger. I know Stankoven and his eagerness to get the Victory Green jersey on. If he gets sent down to the Texas Stars out of training camp, it’s only a matter of time before he gets called up.
