Well, you can’t win every preseason and regular season game on the schedule. Unfortunately, the Dallas Stars’ heroic effort to tie the game would be wasted as Oskar Olausson would score the overtime goal giving the Colorado Avalanche a 4-3 win.

I do have to give credit to the Stars that suited up tonight, they fought hard until the final goal went in the net. Even though they lost, they did show what Texas Hockey is all about. Here are the three takeaways from tonight’s game against the Avalanche.

Dallas Stars vs. Colorado Avalanche Recap: 3. Logan Stankoven and Nils Lundkvist were beasts tonight

Even though Logan Stankoven didn’t record a point tonight against the Avalanche, he did show why he’s the top prospect the Stars have in their prospect pool. The 5’7 center was not pushed around on the ice. He reminded me of a mako shark going toe-to-toe with a great white shark tonight.

This has been one of the biggest concerns that draft scouts had when he entered the draft. Based on what I saw tonight, it sure looks like he can hang with players taller than him on the ice. Fans should be excited whenever he makes the Dallas Stars opening night roster.

Nils Lundkvist should not be in the suite this season. I’m sorry but after how he played tonight, there’s no reason why he should not be in the lineup every night. I think giving up our 2023 first-round pick might pay off this season. I hope we see Lundkvist out there on the ice on October 12th instead of in his suit.

Dallas Stars vs. Colorado Avalanche Recap: 2. Matěj Blümel needs an extension

I think the Stars need to sit down with his agent and get a new extension done with Matěj Blümel during this season. Blümel has impressed me with his speed and not giving up on the play during the last two preseason games.

If you watch the goal that he scored tonight below, you can see his ability to play until the whistle sounds. In my honest opinion. I think he could be on the fourth line next season. That’s why the Stars need to get a new deal with him on the books before other teams can sign him next offseason.

Dallas Stars vs. Colorado Avalanche Recap: 1. The Stars don’t go down without a fight

Even though the Stars lost tonight, I’m so proud of how hard this team fought in the third period to get this game tied up and force overtime for a second straight game. This is the type of play fans hope translates over to the regular season. If the Stars can be this aggressive on offense when trailing late in the third period, teams should be very afraid of the Stars.
