Apparently, it was Finnish Mafia Appreciation night at the American Airlines Center tonight. Esa Lindell and Roope Hintz scored tonight to get the Dallas Stars on the board as they beat the Coyotes 4-3 in overtime at the American Airlines Center tonight.
It was a very close game tonight against a really good Coyotes team. With all the new additions that they had during the offseason Here are the three takeaways from tonight’s game against the Coyotes.
Dallas Stars vs. Arizona Coyotes Recap: 3. Finally got our first power play goal at home this season
I thought it would happen during this homestand based on how the Stars got the power play going in Minnesota. The Stars finally got their first home power play goal of the season tonight when Roope Hintz just sniped a beauty past Karei Vejmelka. It was the second goal scored by a Finnish player tonight which is pretty remarkable. It was good to finally score that first power play goal at home and end the power play drought at home this season. Let’s continue scoring more on Saturday night.
Dallas Stars vs. Arizona Coyotes Recap: 2. Responding to your opponents
The one thing that I like seeing is the Stars responding if their opponent scores first. Clayton Keller opened up the scoring at the American Airlines Center tonight in the first period. It was nice to see Esa Lindell get his first goal of the season tonight on a beautiful slapshot. It shows that the Stars will defend their home ice against their opponents. Let’s continue defending home ice as there are four more games during this homestand.
Dallas Stars vs. Arizona Coyotes Recap: 1. Matt Duchene appreciation
Matt Duchene will probably go down as one of Jim Nill’s top highway robberies of his tenure as Stars GM. Personally, when Nashville let him go this offseason, I didn’t think that the Stars would even go after him with some of our top prospects about ready for the NHL.
I would not be opposed to signing him to a two-year extension with the Stars’ Stanley Cup Contention window still viable. I have to give Nill credit where credit is due on signing Duchene. We wouldn’t be in first place in the Central Division without him right now.
