The playoff push is still going for the Dallas Stars after their big win last night. Surprisingly enough, they are still receiving help from the teams around them in the standings.

Don’t you just love it when everything goes your way? Whether it is getting a promotion at your job or racking up all A’s, it’s a surreal feeling.

Last night, the Dallas Stars probably felt like this because just about everything ended up in their favor.

They scored five goals in the first period. These goals came from all across the Dallas lineup (Devin Shore, Radek Faksa, Lauri Korpikoski, Brett Ritchie, and Jamie Benn), giving them plenty of depth to feed off of. They scored six in the game and defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-3.

The win gave the Stars their third winning streak of the season and bumped them up to a record of 21-20-10 with 52 points in 51 games, officially pushing them over the .500 gap for the first time since Jan. 14th. They beat a powerful Maple Leafs team and gained two valuable points in their hunt for a playoff spot.

On top of all of that, the Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues lost in their own respective games. Both teams are ahead of Dallas in the race by just a few points, and the losses helped the Stars close the gap. They now sit one point out of the final wild card spot in the West and four points out of third place in the Central Division. They are slowly on the rise once again.

All in all, just about everything went their way last night. The only way it could have been better would have been if the Los Angeles Kings had lost. But, in the words of Meatloaf, two out of three ain’t bad.

Last night proved that there is still plenty of play left in this season and that things are far from being fleshed out and definite in the Western Conference. But it also proved that the Dallas Stars are still very much in the fight. They found a way to cast aside their inconsistencies (at least for now) and win two big games in a row against opponents in the same boat as them.

And it’s encouraging to see that the other teams around them are starting to slip as Dallas hopefully begins to catch fire. The slump giveth and the slump taketh away.

One win isn’t doing anything highly noticeable in the standings. For example, the Stars have won two straight games but have not moved from eleventh place. At first glance, it seems as though they aren’t gaining any ground. But when you begin to examine the situation, it’s clear that Dallas is slowly beginning to rise.

This style of play is giving the Dallas Stars new life and a new shape. This new shape is putting an entirely different spin on things. As long as the Stars can keep winning, it seems as though everything else will take care of itself. It’s still a dogfight, and all of the teams that were involved a few weeks back are still involved in the playoff race.

Things are airtight. The Stars need to keep up their momentum. To start off the month of February, they close out their six-game homestand with games against two divisional rivals: the Jets and Blackhawks. Two wins would not only give them their largest win streak of the season, but it would also likely hoist them into a playoff spot and give them some breathing room.

Overall, the Stars finally seem to be picking up speed and they are getting rewarded for it on both fronts. Isn’t it nice when others lend a hand?
