The month of May is typically a down month for all non-playoff teams in the NHL. But for the Dallas Stars, there are a few things to look forward to, so keep up.

The fifth month of the year is officially upon us. How crazy is that? It seems like just yesterday the Dallas Stars were starting the 2017 year with hope of a playoff berth still very much in front of them.

But sadly that didn’t happen, and so here we are. The Stars have been without hockey for a little over three weeks now, and it’s been disappointing to watch all of the other teams have all the fun in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. On the bright side, at least they’re making it fun for us, too.

The next big, league-wide event that will involve all 31 teams is the NHL Expansion Draft in late June. Until then, what do the Dallas Stars have to look forward to?

There’s actually a good amount for Stars fans to watch for. Here are just a couple of things to keep a look out for in this beautiful month as we transition to another lovely and jam-packed summer.

More from Blackout Dallas

1. World Championships

It’s no secret that the IIHF World Championships are the highlight of the offseason for a player on a non-playoff team. And there is no shortage of these types of players on the Dallas Stars.

After missing the playoffs in 2015, the Stars sent seven different players to the championships to compete with their home countries.

This year, the Stars will be sending at least three, maybe four. John Klingberg will play for Team Sweden, Julius Honka will play for Team Finland, and Antoine Roussel will play for Team France. Valeri Nichushkin might play for Team Russia, depending on what the final roster says.

There could have been more, but due to injuries and personal decisions, players like Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, and Jason Spezza will not be joining their countries for the tourney.

The tournament kicks off on May 5 with pool play before turning into a bracket setup. We’ll keep you updated on all that happens regarding each Stars player.

2. The 25th Anniversary Celebration

Earlier today, the Dallas Stars announced that they will reveal their “25 Defining Moments” over the next 25 weeks in honor of the Stars’ 25th Anniversary.

They will celebrate the anniversary during the 2017-18 season after spending the past 25 years in Dallas. Amidst plenty of smaller-scale celebrations, the pinnacle moment will be the retirement of longtime Star Jere Lehtinen’s #26 in the rafters of the AAC.

Over the next 25 weeks, the Dallas Stars will be posting some of their most defining moments as a franchise on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat.

Make sure to keep yourself locked in on at least one of their social network profiles.

3. Watch the players enjoy their vacation

If you don’t follow many Stars’ players on Instagram or Twitter, I would highly recommend that you get on it.

For example, Radek Faksa posted a story on his Instagram this morning that featured him feeding his pet turtle a piece of lettuce. It may not sound entertaining, but I guarantee you that it will be the greatest thing you will watch all day. Here’s a link to his profile.

And here’s a picture to prove that you won’t be wasting your time.

There are plenty of other Dallas Stars to keep up with as well as they spend the first little part of their offseason relaxing before getting back to work for next year.

As you can see, there’s plenty of things to keep up with in May that pertain to the Dallas Stars. We’ll try our best to keep you updated on it all.
