Dallas Stars Finding Plenty Of Time For Summer Fun
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy- and it’s something the Dallas Stars are looking to avoid as well.
For the last couple weeks, it seems the Dallas Stars have constantly been in the crossfires of some important decision, breaking news, or significant event. It’s all snowballing first into free agency, which opens in just a few short (or long, depending on how you feel about free agency) days. But beyond that, the Dallas Stars are working toward a season that is getting a lot of special thought, consideration, and planning beforehand.
All of that is good and well. And after last season, who wouldn’t want to see some careful rethinking and evaluation of strategy in Dallas? But as we all know, there is a fine line between preparation and overkill. A line which, thankfully, the Dallas Stars and their players recognized and are avoiding.

In the midst of dominating the draft, ensuring that their best and brightest will be kept close to home come July 1st, resigning Esa Lindell, buying out Antti Niemi (as I resist the urge to make a “Finnish” pun), and bringing in Marc Methot (a four-day former Vegas Knight), the Stars have found time to schedule a little R & R as well.
The Dallas Stars have always been good at entertaining us and distracting us from hockeyless-ness with their offseason shenanigans, and that after so much seriousness, it’s high time for a little diversion.
The Stars are set up to participate in the sixth annual Smashfest via Antoine Roussel, who thanks to some smart management choices, is still a Dallas Star after the expansion draft. Roussel and former Star Patrick Eaves, who has re-signed with Anaheim, were highlights of the event in the past.
The event is scheduled to take place on July 20th. Not too soon afterwards, the Dallas Stars have the Reunion Lawn Party on their calendar. The third annual Reunion Lawn Party is sure to be something special, as it marks the beginning of Dallas’ 25th hockey season- a journey which coincidentally started at Reunion Arena, which served for multiple seasons as the Stars’ homebase.
This party is set to be typical of the kind of good, summer fun the Stars are accustomed to providing for their fans. Free of charge, it’s something you’ll for sure want to check out if you are in Dallas on July 29th.
And once the fun of Smashfest and the Reunion Lawn Party is in the books, there will undoubtedly be more summer fun to look forward to before the Dallas Stars start off their 17-18 season against the NHL’s newest team in October.

Until then, remember to take a page out of the Dallas Stars’ book and work hard, but play hard too. And if for some reason, you find yourself down in a post-July 1st slump, don’t forget to put these events on your summer calendar for a little bit of fun diversion.
