Dallas Stars: Comparing Them To The Dallas Cowboys
The 2017 NFL season kicked off on Thursday night in New England and will get into full throttle this afternoon. How do the Dallas Stars compare to the Dallas Cowboys?
It’s NFL football time in the US of A once again. On Thursday night, the Kansas City Chiefs visited the defending champion New England Patriots and pulled off the upset away from home to start the 2017 season off with a bang.
But that was merely an appetizer to all of the fun planned for today. It’s Sunday, and the NFL is back in full throttle. Throughout today, 13 different games will take place across the league, followed by two tomorrow.
This is an exciting time of year for sports fans. College football begins in late August and is followed quickly by NFL football. And around one month after the NFL begins, the NHL and NBA comes into play. That’s entertaining for people that live in the Dallas area and care about the Dallas Cowboys, Mavericks, and of course, the Dallas Stars.
In less than one week, the Dallas Stars will be in Cedar Park to begin training camp. Immediately following training camp, the preseason will be off and running. And about two weeks after that, the regular season begins against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Dallas Stars
The city of Dallas is in for an intense year of sports. That’s primarily because both the Stars and Cowboys are expected to have exciting seasons.
The Dallas Cowboys finished with an impressive 13-3 record last season while significantly riding the talents of two rookies. While they didn’t end up as Super Bowl champions, they are one of the favorites to contend for it this year.
The Dallas Stars, on the other hand, spent 2016-17 in the cellar of the NHL standings. After the second-worst season in franchise history, GM Jim Nill restocked the lineup and has Dallas setting their sights on a Central Division title, playoff berth, and maybe even more.
But how do these two teams line up? Considering both are just a hop, skip, and jump away from beginning their seasons, let’s take this Sunday afternoon to compare the two rosters and see the similarities that each possesses.
Jamie Benn = Dak Prescott
Now you may be thinking that this isn’t necessarily the best comparison because Benn and Prescott’s age and experience are so different. Benn is entering his ninth season in the NHL with the Stars while Prescott is starting his second year in the NFL.
But this comparison is perfect simply because of poise, leadership, and determination. Both players constantly give their all on the field/ice and will do anything for their team. They are both respective captains.
Both players are extremely talented and have bright futures ahead. The peaks have yet to come. That’s pretty exciting for both the Stars and Cowboys.
Dallas Cowboys
Tyler Seguin = Ezekiel Elliott
This comparison is pretty spot-on. After Elliott’s career year in 2016, the Dallas Cowboys arguably have the best run game in the NFL.
And there’s an argument to be made that the Dallas Stars have one of the best centers in the game in Tyler Seguin.
Each player is multidimensional, offers plenty of various skills to their team, and are known around the league for their flashiness and ability to steal the show. Feed Zeke or feed Seggy. Either way, it’s in the team’s best interests.
Jason Spezza = Jason Witten
Another excellent comparison comes on the veteran side of things with Spezza and Witten. Both are veteran leaders and bring a world of experience to the field/ice.
Witten has spent his entire career with the Cowboys and proved to be one of the most consistent and powerful tight ends in NFL history. He’s a dominant force and is always reliable.
The same thing applies to Jason Spezza with the Stars. He’s rarely injured, can always produce, and can play in just about any situation. He plays a strong role as the second line center, backing up Seguin and providing offensive depth in the top six.
Both veterans are still valuable for their team and provide a necessary edge.

Stephen Johns = Sean Lee
These two guys are alike simply because they love to hit the opposition and provide a physical force.
Sean Lee has struggled with injuries in his past, but when he is healthy, he’s one of the best linebackers in the league. Lee finished fourth in the NFL in tackles last year, putting up 145. He had the most of any outside linebacker.
Stephen Johns, on the other hand, loves to assert his physicality in-game. The massive defender (6-4, 230 lb.) led the team in hits last year at 159. He knows how to pack a punch with his collisions.
Lee and Johns both know how to pack a punch on defense and threaten the offensive opposition.
Ben Bishop = Dan Bailey
Bishop and Bailey are similar primarily because of their accuracy and focus.
Dan Bailey has been one of the most accurate kickers since joining the NFL a few years ago. It doesn’t seem to matter how far or what direction the Cowboys need him kicking it; he always seems to get it through the uprights.
Ben Bishop is bringing in a new edge to the Dallas Stars crease. A two-time Vezina finalist, Bishop is one of the elite goaltenders in the league and is looking for a redemption year. He’s a smart and precise goaltender and knows how to go the extra mile to make a save.
Alexander Radulov = Dez Bryant
The final comparison is newcomer Alexander Radulov and longtime Cowboy Dez Bryant.
Both are known for their incredible speed and ability to take a game into their own hands. They are powerful assets, can score on a regular basis, and know how to put the team on their backs when the game is on the line.
These are just a few comparisons that could be made, but it’s nice to see that both teams are on the rise. Each one has a good shot at making plenty of noise this year, and that’s great if you are an all-Dallas sports fan.
