The Dallas Stars seemed to have found their footing in the season lately, digging themselves out of the hole they initially made. It’s largely due to contributions from the team’s leadership.

The Dallas Stars’ early season struggles look to have somewhat been resolved in their recent winning streak. By fully engaging players of all levels – from depth to first-liners – Dallas has been able to capitalize on their offensive strengths and improve upon their defensive-zone coverage.

Jamie Benn

Jamie Benn has been on a tear during Dallas’ four-game winning streak. The Stars captain has amounted six points (3G, 3A) in that time, helping the team to improve their below .500 record to a much more respectable (5-3-0).

His physical approach to their recent games has enabled the team to take advantage of being the biggest team in the NHL. When Benn is at his best, he’s unafraid to plow through the competition and leave bruises along the way.

That hard-hitting style of play then fuels Benn’s offensive game and exudes the confidence he needs to contribute offensively.

Tyler Seguin

Tyler Seguin has also contributed six points to the Stars’ most recent winning efforts. He has been able to score in a variety of ways and managed to really amp up Dallas’ power play intensity. While the team doesn’t score on every power play opportunity, they’ve been moving around more and have taken a better, more effective approach that has increased quality scoring chances.

Seguin is one of the Stars’ best goal-scorers. He can make plays, but knows that his greatest strength is his hard, accurate shot. When he’s at his best, No. 91 can beat any goaltender in the league and he too exudes confidence.

After being designated as one of Dallas’ two road alternate captains, Seguin has been able to take more responsibility and turn it into on-ice production. This version of No. 91 is welcome to stick around for the remainder of the 2017-18 season.

Bottom Line

While the four-game winning streak isn’t something to hang your hat on for the entire season, it’s definitely showing steps in the right direction. At first, the Stars were inconsistent and frazzled on the ice, where as now they can take a plan and execute with significantly more effectiveness.
