The Dallas Stars are coming in hot, and their outcome tonight against down and out Columbus will speak volumes about their readiness to move forward and on into the postseason.

Bye week was pretty good to the Dallas Stars, and now they’re back in action and still in their wildcard slot. Given the Stars’ recent string of smart and effective play and the results they’ve garnered, they’re secure in that spot for now.

The Blue Jackets are within the top of the East, but they’ve had some bad luck lately. Columbus is coming off its own bye week and went into it in a less than desirable way. With back to back losses to send them into their break, the Blue Jackets are at 25-18-3 for their season.

Now, they’re facing injury issues, clamoring for healthy players to see them through the injury bug. The Dallas Stars know what that’s like, but not as much lately. Their current roadtrip is turning up all roses, adding more Ws onto their 26-17-3 record.

What’s been lighting the lamp for the Stars recently has been the strength of their depth players and the contributions from the whole team. All players are stepping up and pitching in in a pretty consistent way.

This is what the Blue Jackets are wanting to attain, but with forwards lost to injury, they’re trying to get it through trades and call-ups. It’s going to be a one and done, all or nothing effort for the Blue Jackets and their new personnel. It’s their first game back since bye week, and it’ll be their only one until Tuesday.

Will this prevent Columbus from getting back into the swing of things, or will they be rested and ready for action? Dallas has had a day off since their 4-2 win in Detroit, but their recent play doesn’t really make one think that they’re puttering out.

Long story short, the Dallas Stars have been climbing and falling all season long, but have been gaining ground and picking up speed recently. The Blue Jackets have secured a good spot in the Eastern standings, but seem like they’re slipping into a more compromised position.

If the Stars can pull together and continue giving consistent team efforts to take advantage of Columbus and keep the good times rolling, their chances at rolling right on through into the postseason are pretty good.
