Dallas Stars Must Keep Egos In Check Moving Forward

There’s something special going on with the Dallas Stars right now and it’s difficult to complain about their play of late. However, getting too comfortable is never a good idea in the NHL.

The Dallas Stars are on a hot streak. They’ve been racking up points at a pace that has catapulted them into a race for the top spot in the Central Division and show no signs of slowing down.

There, however, is still a lot of hockey left to be played. Getting too cocky now could lead to a tragic downfall for a Stars team that wants and deserves nothing more than a quality playoff run.

Central Division Streaks

Dallas isn’t the only team in the Central Division on a tear right now. In their last 10 games, the Stars are (7-2-1). But so are the Winnipeg Jets. The Colorado Avalanche — who sit only three points behind the Stars with two games in hand — are (9-1-0) in that same span.

The Nashville Predators, St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild find themselves on streaks with six wins and the Chicago Blackhawks are at the bottom of the barrel, having lost three in a row and five of their last 10.

The worst team in the division — both on the season and in the last 10 games — still earned nine points. Ground is hard to cover in this league, and the Central Division is proving just that.

As long as the rest of the teams in the stacked group that is the division keep winning, the pressure is on for the Stars to follow suit.

Nothing is Guaranteed

Yes, the Stars are fairing very well and playing some great hockey. They just had an unbelievably successful road trip in which they earned seven of eight possible points in the span of only six days.

It’s challenging to not have a confidence buzz after something like that.

Not to mention their 6-1 victory in their return to the American Airlines Center last night. There’s a lot of good happening around this team, and it seems like they’re able to find ways to win regardless of who they’re up against and which players are in the line-up.

However, that could all come to a screeching halt with little notice. Anything from a — knock on wood — devastating injury to a key player to a loss of commitment to the system could lead to a downfall for the Stars. It wasn’t too long ago that they were playing well, but couldn’t seem to convert on their opportunities.

The NHL is a hard place to play. That sometimes gets lost when a team is doing as well as Dallas is right not, but they need to remember nothing is guaranteed. A loss will happen again, and they’ll have to find a way to pick themselves back up and start a new streak.
