The 2018 trade deadline has come and gone. The Dallas Stars, however, were not active at all in the day’s events, which reiterates the confidence GM Jim Nill has in the team.

While it may appear that yesterday’s lack of movement is a bad sign for the Dallas Stars, it actually proves to be great moving forward. Players on the team can breathe a sigh of relief that they’re staying in the Lone Star State for the time being.

As-Is

Dallas has been struggling of late, so it might be shocking that Nill would opt to not switch things up on the team. However, it’s a good sign that he didn’t make a move simply to make a move.

That’s usually when players end up leaving who should have stayed, and the players that are acquired typically don’t do what the team needs — I’m looking at you Jyrki Jokipakka trade.

The Stars have a good bunch with all of the talent and experience necessary to succeed. They’re a young group of players with immense hunger to return to the postseason and make a name for themselves as a force to be reckoned with.

Keeping the team as-is proves to be the best way to maintain that moving forward.

Comparison is the Thief of Joy

While other teams in the Central Division were rather active yesterday, it shouldn’t change how the Stars approach playing them moving forward. It’s no secret Dallas has some room for improvement — especially against teams like the Winnipeg Jets — but even with new additions, those teams will play the same style.

The Stars can only control what they do during their games and stressing over what teams around them in the standings are doing only leads to paranoia. That mindset is unproductive and proves to put all of Dallas’ hard work thus far this season in jeopardy.

If one thing is certain, the Stars need to move forward with the confidence that they’re a team that can succeed. They have the pieces necessary to do so, it’s really just about getting the job done.
