It’s shaping up to be a pretty special NHL Entry Draft this summer for Dallas Stars fans due to its location. Now that we know more details about the event, it’s sinking in and our excitement is growing.
When it was announced last summer that the 2018 NHL Draft was set to take place in Dallas, the Dallas Stars were in a very different place than they were now.
Well, perhaps it’s more accurate to say that we as fans were in a different place. Poetically enough, the Dallas Stars will find themselves in much the same position when the draft rolls into Dallas as they were when its location was announced.
The Stars are still in a transition phase, one made more precarious by the failure of their season. Still, with the draft coming to town, it’s a time for Stars fans to focus more on the future and the possibilities presenting themselves for something more than just another transitional season.
The NHL recently announced the selection order for the first NHL Draft to be held at American Airlines Center. For the first draft on home turf, the Dallas Stars will take eight picks in total, the first coming in round one at number 13 overall.

The Stars will follow that up with a pick in round 2 (44th overall), one in round 3 (75th overall), two in round 4 (100th and 106th overall), one in round 5 (137th overall), one in round 6 (168th overall), and one in round 7 (199th overall).
In comparison to past years, the Stars’ draft picks are spread out nicely throughout the rounds, with their two picks in round 4 set to make it their most active round of the draft.
With the draft coming to Dallas from June 22-23, it’ll be a great opportunity for local fans to have a front row seat to history being made for the Stars. Multiple stations will be covering the event, but we know you’ll be sticking with us at Blackout Dallas for your draft day updates, of course.
