Dallas Stars Luck Is Turning Around: Third Overall Pick, Seguin’s Recovery
The 2016-17 season was a constant series of pitiful luck for the Dallas Stars, and it truly haunted them. But now that the offseason is rolling, it looks like their bad luck is turning good.
The Dallas Stars seem to have put the 2016-17 campaign in the rearview completely and are taking full advantage of the opportunities the offseason brings. With everything from a new coach, new deals, injured player updates and draft picking orders going in their favor, the Stars should be excited about their recent streak of luck.
Third Overall Pick in Draft
Dallas somehow managed to pick up the third overall pick in this year’s entry draft. That is the highest pick they have had since coming to Dallas in 1993 and is a big deal in this day and age.
While some have expressed their disappointment with this year’s draft options, there are still quality players that can transform teams available. With a third overall pick the Stars could likely choose one of them if they pick correctly. No one wants another Jack Campbell-esque pick.

There is also the chance that the Stars could opt to trade their high pick. Drafting is a key component of any organization moving forward, especially in a salary cap world. They could leverage their third overall choice to get a goaltender and ease the nerves of Stars fans and the team themselves.
They could also package the pick with players they do not plan on protecting to up the return on investment. Ultimately this pick is a great swing of luck in Dallas’ direction. There are endless possibilities with what they will do with it and there are almost no bad options.
Seguin’s Surgery
The team also released that Tyler Seguin underwent shoulder surgery with an expected recovery time of four months. That puts his date of return to play right around training camp, which means he will be fresh and hopefully ready to go to kick off the 2017-18 season.
No. 91 apparently took a page out of Stars captain Jamie Benn‘s handbook and played injured throughout the duration of the season. While the surgery was not required immediately, the timing of Dallas’ season being over in early April made it the perfect opportunity to get it out of the way.
A refreshed Seguin coupled with the hopeful return of Mattias Janmark, who just inked a new deal, makes for an exciting start to the new campaign despite it being months away.
